Streamlining Payroll Across CHESS Member Colleges

The CHESS Payroll Shared Services Office is committed to providing accurate, timely, and consistent payroll operations to all member colleges.

Benefits of Payroll Shared Services for CHESS Member Colleges:

  • Strategic Focus: This model allows member colleges to focus more on strategic initiatives while ensuring employees receive dependable service.
  • Responsive Support: The CHESS team is committed to providing responsive support and clear communication to meet the needs of employees at all our member colleges.
  • Cost savings: The shared services model reduces overhead costs per member college by sharing those costs with other member schools. By consolidating payroll functions, we can achieve economies of scale and reduce duplication of effort.
  • Access to expertise: With our collaborative model, we share best practices, prioritize open communication, and offer expertise on subjects that would otherwise take each member college a substantial amount of time to research. By focusing exclusively on payroll and payroll-related functions, we are able to allow our staff to specialize and become true subject matter experts.
  • Enhanced compliance and reduced risk: We ensure that tax rules, unemployment regulations, and employment laws at the federal, state, and local levels are followed for member colleges’ employees from all 50 states. This minimizes the risk of non-compliance, costly penalties, and other legal consequences.
  • Scalability: A centralized shared service allows for the ability to scale operations up or down without a linear increase in costs or disruption to core functions.
