The Collaborative for Higher Education Shared Services (CHESS) is a growing, fully remote nonprofit that aligns diverse, independently governed colleges to share tools and talents to better serve students and streamline administrative processes. CHESS Data Reporting Analyst
Location: Remote (AZ, CO, NM, OK, TX, UT)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary
As a member of the CHESS Shared Data Reporting Office, the CHESS Data Reporting Analyst is essential to providing transformational support to meet the data and reporting goals and initiatives of CHESS and its member colleges through Workday reporting tools and Prism Analytics. The role will provide data reporting services for all areas of the Workday system (HCM, Finance, Payroll, Student) and will participate fully in the definition of detailed data governance framework.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of Workday’s reporting tools and functionality.
- Support the maintenance of Workday as a reporting and Prism expert, applying best practices and defined standards.
- Collaborate with college stakeholders to design, develop, and test simple to complex Workday reports (advanced, matrix, composite), dashboards, discovery boards, and Prism data sets.
- Provide cross-functional understanding of data and its intersections and inter-dependencies across the overall Workday ecosystem to support member colleges.
- Provide technical guidance for the member colleges and serve as a subject matter expert for Workday reporting and Prism.
- Work with the CHESS Enterprise Systems & Services teams to define and edit security domain policies and other Workday objects to achieve the strategic needs of CHESS and its member colleges.
- Coordinate with CHESS Enterprise Systems & Services in the review of Workday system upgrades and releases to determine overall impact on existing processes and reports. Conduct regression testing and make recommendations for future enhancements/functionality with an eye to improve the overall Workday environment and user experience.
- Assist in the review and documentation of new and revised reporting and Prism requirements and implementation plans.
- Participate in the management of a data governance framework for CHESS and CHESS member colleges.
- Engage with Workday Community to understand technology capabilities and recommend solutions that address business needs.
- Serve as an escalation resource for Tier 2 & 3 reporting and Prism issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year of direct Workday experience
- 2-3 years of experience specifically related to the duties and responsibilities listed above
- Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-to-year basis
- A thorough knowledge of federal and state higher education reporting regulations, preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for or with a nonprofit shared service
- At least one year of experience working with Prism Analytics data sources

CHESS ESS Business Analyst

Position Summary:
The CHESS ESS Business Analyst role within the CHESS Enterprise Systems and Services (ESS) Shared Services organization, provides functional and technical support for the Workday Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Student Information System (SIS) platform. CHESS ESS Senior Applications Analyst

Position Summary
The ESS Applications Senior Analyst role within the CHESS Enterprise Systems and Services (ESS) Shared Services organization handles coordinating application support for our Applications Support Services team, including functionality and development activities, Release Management, ERP Innovation Initiatives, and operational oversight of third-party platforms such as Kainos. CHESS Financial Aid Verification and Processing Specialist

Position Summary
Under direct supervision by the CHESS Financial Aid Assistant Director, the CHESS Financial Aid Verification and Processing Specialist will perform functions related to back-office processing for our member institutions’ financial aid offices. This position will also assist in the Workday project implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- CHESS is seeking a Financial Aid Verification and Processing Specialist to support financial aid operations across member colleges. This role focuses on performing essential back-office processes. The specialist may also contribute to system-related activities, including attending occasional Workday meetings and participating in testing as needed. Assist designing workflows of key processes (ISIR Management, Action Item Assignment, Verification, Corrections, Budgeting, Packaging, Disbursement Return of Title IV Funds, and Satisfactory Academic Progress, etc.).
- Perform Financial Aid back-office processes for member institutions (ISIR Management, Action Item Assignment, Verification, Corrections, Budgeting, Packaging, Disbursement Return of Title IV Funds and Satisfactory Academic Progress, etc.).
- Evaluate Exception reports, rejects and errors for resolution.
- Collect, analyze, evaluate, and perform verifications/corrections of financial aid data and documents submitted by students.
- Assist member institutions in identifying and resolving overawards.
- Review applications and other documents for student financial aid eligibility per the Department of Education eligibility requirements.
- Identify and review student files flagged for conflicting information.
- Perform Return of Title IV calculation when a student withdraws from the member institution either officially or unofficially.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of member colleges’ policies, procedures and federal state regulations, related to the financial aid process
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in business, finance, or any related field is required
or three years’ experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Workday
- Knowledge of federal financial aid
Work Environment/Physical Demands
This position is fully remote. The employee is expected to maintain a suitable home workspace; CHESS will provide all necessary equipment and supplies. Work is primarily performed in a remote office environment and may require extended periods of sitting and computer use, with occasional standing, walking, or lifting.

Schedule Designation
- This position is eligible for fully remote work within approved states where the member colleges are authorized to employ staff (AZ, CO, NM, OK, TX, UT)
- Typically 8:00am – 5:00pm MST, Monday through Friday.
